Week 5

Week 5

Buffalo at Chicago – The Bears (4-0) completely destroyed the Seahawks last week. They looked great in all facets of the game. WR Berrian had a great day with 108 yards on 3 catches with a TD. Jones also rushed for two of their scores. Buffalo only managed to score 17 points against the Vikes last week. Losman is going to have a hard time facing the Bears defense.

Cleveland at Carolina – GO BROWNS!! The Browns had their first win of the season last week over Oakland. Charlie Frye continues to look better every week. This is probably the confidence boost the team needed. The Panthers have WR Steve Smith back in the lineup. Cleveland will need to limit their turnovers and avoid getting burned deep by Keyshawn and Smith.

Detroit at Minnesota – The Lions scored 34 points against the Rams last week. Unfortunately, they gave up 41 points and lost the game. They made it a close game, but continued to give up big play after big play. Minnesota lost to Buffalo, but should have the necessary tools to beat the lowly 0-4 Lions. Chester Taylor hasn’t impressed me this year. Maybe he can have his breakout game this week.

Miami at New England – Now that the Pats rediscovered their running game, look for them to put up big numbers again. They literally ran all over the Bengals last week. Rookie RB Maroney and Dillon combined for 3 TDs with nearly 200 yards on the ground. Miami continues to struggle every week. That won’t change this week either.

St. Louis at Green Bay – Even though it was only the Lions, the Rams looked great last week. Even Isaac Bruce had 100 yards with a touchdown. If this spills over into this week, the Packers need to be wary. The Packers fired Carroll for getting burned by the Eagles. Let’s see how many people get fired this week.

Tampa Bay at New Orleans – The Saints will bounce back after last week’s tough loss to the Panthers. Colston had a big day including a 86-yard TD catch in the fourth quarter. Without Simms under center, the Bucs will look to Gradkowski to replace him in the lineup. This should be interesting. The Saints defense may have a huge day this week.

Tennessee at Indianapolis – As predicted, they have decided to let Vince Young out of his cage. But is he ready? The Cowboys welcomed him to the NFL last week. Now it’s the Colts turn. Peyton rallied his Colts last week in a 2-minute drive down the field. The Colts will handle the Titans easily. This may be a yawner.

Washington at N.Y. Giants – This is one of the big NFC East Matchups this week. Lavar will have a chance to play against the Skins for the first time. He will not be the determining factor though. Eli, Plaxico, and Tiki will have to get out early on the Skins. It took overtime for the Skins to beat Jacksonville last week. I don’t think they have enough mojo left in the tank for this week.

Kansas City at Arizona – Are you serious? 41-0? The Chiefs let it all hang out last week’s shutout against the Niners. But don’t let that influence your thoughts about the Chiefs. They still stink! Arizona has to figure out what to do with Edge. Edge needs to learn his role. He needs to be running the ball not catching it. That’s what they pay Boldin and Fitzgerald the big dollars for. Maybe they can put it together this week.

N.Y. Jets at Jacksonville – Both teams suffered tough losses last week. Look for the Jaguars to bounce back this week. I must admit, the Jets actually looked good against the Colts but blew their lead. They have to know when to put teams away. Jacksonville is not a team you can allow to stick around with you and hope you can still win. The Jags will keep Barlow out of the endzone this week.

Oakland at San Francisco – Battle of the Bay! Do we honestly have to watch this game? One team is terrible and the other one sucks. I’m going with San Fran because they were completely embarrassed last week. If they have any kind of pride in themselves, they will lie, cheat, and steal to win this game.

Dallas at Philadelphia – Cancer had this date on his calendar circled. He gets to face his former team for the first time this season. The Eagles will try their best to keep him contained. Now, if you have been watching the Cowboys, you know that Terry Glenn is the one that should be on their radar. Julius had a big game last week. Philly will have to decide to double the wides or stuff the box.

Pittsburgh at San Diego – Even after their bye week, Spittsburgh will continue its downward spiral in their division. If they don’t start winning, this will be Cowher’s last year. Remember, “The Bus” already busted him out. The Chargers were upset by the Ravens last week at the last second. The Steelers have a good defense, but it will not contain Tomlinson the way Baltimore did last week. Chargers will improve to 3-1 after this game.

Baltimore at Denver – Somebody on this Ravens team is eating a whole bowl of Lucky Charms. Back-to-back weeks of come from behind miracle plays have this team at 4-0. Denver hasn’t looked sharp all year. The last thing Plummer wants to see is a cocky Ravens defense. He’ll definitely have to limit his turnovers against this nasty defense.

Bye Week: Atlanta, Cincinnati, Houston, and Seattle.

Games of the Week: Dallas at Philadelphia and Washington at N.Y. Giants

Week 4 Picks: 7-7
