Week 2

Week 2

Buffalo at Miami – Even without S Troy Vincent and LB Spikes, this Buffalo defense will prevail over the Dolphins. The Dolphins’ offense showed huge gaps in last week’s bout against the Steelers. Buffalo, on the other hand, imploded against the Pats by losing on a safety. Culpepper will have to make some major adjustments this week if they are to get past this Bills' D.

Carolina at Minnesota – WR Steve Smith is still listed as questionable this week. Drew Carter, who compiled 73 total yards, started in his place last week. Atlanta's offense was just a little bit too much to handle in week one for the Panthers. The Vikings shocked the ‘Skins in their own stadium, winning 19-16. Despite this win, the Vikes are far from being a good team. Panthers need to bottle up WR Williamson to control the passing game.

Cleveland at Cincinnati – GO BROWNS!! Last week, the Browns' game was poorly officiated. Penalties cost the Browns that game. This week, we have the battle of Ohio teams. Cincinnati’s defense dealt a death blow to Trent Green and the Chiefs last week. The Browns will have to stop Rudi, gag Chad, protect Charlie Frye, and control the tempo of this game from the start.

Detroit at Chicago – Chicago’s defense completely shut out the Packers, beating them by a score of 26-0. The Lions just can’t seem to find their way into the endzone. The kicker was the only one who earned his money last Sunday. They will have to pull it together if they want to defeat their division opponents.

Houston at Indianapolis – In an effort to replace the injured RB Domanick Davis, Houston has recently acquired Samkon Gado from Green Bay. From top to bottom, the Texans are outmatched in this contest. Houston allowed Stallworth to get out on them in his Eagle debut. Look for Marvin Harrison to have an even bigger day.

New Orleans at Green Bay – Green Bay looked deplorable! They couldn’t find anyone to put points on the board. Ahman Green didn’t look bad, but still failed to get into the endzone. The Saints lucked up against the Browns last week, but should win this one easily. Be wary of The Reggie Show. They are looking to promote him shortly, if Deuce is unable to put up big performances.

N.Y. Giants at Philly – While I wish I could say this a no-brainer, it’s pretty much a toss-up. NFC East teams look pretty good this year. Philly looked great last week, but you have to realize, it was Houston. It’s not hard to look good against the Texans. On the other hand, the Giants come to play every week. Especially, when it comes to playing against a division rival. Eli spreads the ball well, while Tiki does his thing on the ground and in the flat. Giants will need to contain Stallworth, to grab this win.

Oakland at Baltimore – Don’t believe the hype! This is not a Super Bowl bound team, as some critics would suggest. I’ll admit, the Ravens shutdown and shutout all efforts put forth by Tampa Bay last week. They will probably have a repeat performance this week. The Raiders received an “F” for effort for their display against San Diego. The hell with practicing, Oakland may start watching more college football to see whom they are going to draft next year.

Tampa Bay at Atlanta – The Falcons played well against the Panthers last week. Dunn actually had more yards than Vick this week. Now that’s a rarity! Vick only rushed for 48 yards while Dunn had 142 all-purpose yards. Even WR Jenkins and TE Alge Crumpler contributed, each with a touchdown. As long as this team continues to remain balanced, they should win more games. Buccaneers were blown out by Baltimore. Simms couldn’t tell purple uniforms from red/white. It should be even more “INT-eresting” this week.

Arizona at Seattle – This is a rough one. I believe the Seahawks played down to their competition last week against the Lions. The real Seahawk defense will have to be on their game this week. The Cardinals looked great in their season debut versus San Francisco. They managed to put up 34 points, almost the entire total of points for the 2005 season. Deion Branch recently signed with the Seattle, so look for a new target for Hasselbeck this week. Arizona’s defense is suspect.

St. Louis at San Francisco – Jeff Wilkins kicked 6 FGs last week in the Rams 18-10 win over the Broncos. Bulger has to remember how to get into the endzone. The Niners had no problem finding it. Their problem lies within. They are unable to stop their opponent from finding theirs. Both Holt and Jackson should have big days against this Niners’ defense.

Kansas City at Denver – No Trent! Now what? QB Huard is at the helm. Oh boy! It’s going to be a long day in Mile High Stadium. I bet Herman wished he had stayed with the Jets. Jake Plummer couldn’t seem to get it started last week. Each throw looked worse than the one prior. Maybe he can find his niche this week against the Chiefs.

New England at N.Y. Jets – What shoulder injury? Pennington looked like the Pennington from a few years back. He was 24-33 for 319 yards with 2 touchdowns. It looks like that arm is healed. But the Titans defense is not one you would expect to slow anyone down. Even Coles had a big day with 153 on 8 catches. The Pats had a tough time with Buffalo, but pulled it out with a safety. The Jets will have to contend with the Pats defense this week. Don’t expect Chad to put up those kinds of numbers.

Tennessee at San Diego – Even with 2 picks, Kerry Collins had a decent outing against the Jets. The Titans inability to defend is going to cost the Titans another game. Philip Rivers didn’t even have to prove his arm in last week’s win against the Raiders. He had 8 completed passes for 108 yards. He may not even have to test the secondary of the Titans this week. Look for Tomlinson to have a huge day.

Washington at Dallas – How many “pre-season” games are the Redskins willing to lose before they decide that it’s time to start winning games. Here’s another loss for this team who has to travel to Texas in back-to-back weeks. Jacksonville shocked the Cowboys even after the ‘Boys got out on them with a 10-0 first quarter. Bledsoe will keep his turnovers to a minimum against this rival.

Pittsburgh at Jacksonville – Batch or Ben? Batch had probably the best game of his career last week against the Dolphins. He proved to Cowher that he needs and wants a job with the Steelers. So, I pick Batch to start the game and as soon as he does something stupid (because he will), look for Ben to enter the game and “come to the rescue.” Jacksonville shocked the Cowboys (and probably themselves) with their 24-17 win. Lightning won’t strike twice.

Game of The Week – Washington at Dallas

Picks for Week 1: 11-5
