Week 4

Cincinnati at Pittsburgh – Let’s face it, something happened to the Bengals in the off-season. To say that their confidence level is lacking would be an understatement. Their kicker was the not only the leading scorer, but was the only scorer last week. They’ll have to make a complete 180 if they plan to contest this Roethlisberger-led Steelers’ team.
Indianapolis at Jacksonville – It was Peyton’s Place in the RCA Dome last week. Peyton threw 5 TDs for nearly 400 yards against the Cheeseheads. Edgerrin James is listed as probable (but likely to play) with a hammy pull. This shouldn’t be a factor against a suspect Jags’ team that is quietly 3-0.
Oakland at Houston – The Silver and Black are back! Well, maybe not yet, but they did get revenge on Chucky and the Bucs. This looks like its going to be Kerry Collins team with Gannon out for the next 2 months. Texans are coming off a huge win over the Chiefs last week. A 102-yard INT return sparked this team just enough to edge out the Chiefs 24-21. They’ll need a bunch of huge plays from the defense to stop the Raiders.
New England at Buffalo – This is always a huge game, especially for Drew Bledsoe going against his former team. So huge, both teams took their bye week before this matchup. I’m not sure what the Bills needed to rest for at a 0-2 start. The Patriots will continue their dominance over this underachieving Bills team.
Philadelphia at Chicago – Philly completely destroyed Detroit last week in a battle of the unbeaten teams. With Grossman out for the year, look for Jonathan Quinn and/or Craig Krenzel to see some substantial time at the gun. At least until newly signed Hutchinson is ready to fill in. Chicago is in for it now. Thomas Jones and A-Train will have a humongous weight upon their shoulders (and legs).
Washington at ClevelandGO BROWNS!!! With the return of Suggs and possibly TE Heiden, this will be an entirely new Browns team offensively. Having ‘Skins LB Arrington out doesn’t hurt either. The ‘Skins are coming off of a disappointing loss to the Cowboys on MNF. I guess Gibbs spent the last week teaching them the difference between inbounds and out of bounds.
NY Giants at Green Bay – Favre had a great display in a losing effort against the Colts. The Giants, on the other hand, had too many men on the field on every play of the game last week. Those refs had to be paid on the side for some of the ridiculous calls that were made. That won’t work in Lambeau. Come on, how can Warner go an entire game without a turnover?? He has even had turnovers in games he didn’t play. Javon Walker continues to improve each week. He had 3 TDs last week. Look for big things against the Giants secondary.
Atlanta at Carolina – The Dirty Birds are flying high at 3-0. Carolina had a chance to rest and should be ready to bring the flight of the Falcons to an end. Atlanta beat the Cards 6-3 last week. They’ll need to play 10 times better if they are going to beat the Panthers.
New Orleans at Arizona – 3 was the magic number last week for both teams. The Cards only managed to score 3 and the Saints won by 3 in OT over the Rams. Talk about opposite ends of the spectrum. Stecker quieted the critics rushing over 100 yards in the first game after the Saints lost Deuce. Poor, poor Dennis Green. It’s going to be a long afternoon.
NY Jets at Miami – Fiedler returns as starting QB and RB Gordon is out for the year. What is wrong with the Dolphins organization? What are they thinking? Maybe if Ricky Williams pays back the $8.6M, the Dolphins can buy some common sense. Jets will have an easy one this week.
Tennessee at San Diego – Always bet on McNair when he’s listed as probable. Even a hospital stay can’t stop this guy from performing well against the Chargers. The Chargers seemed to contain the Broncos rushing attack, limiting them to only 33 yards on the ground. That may be a little hard to do against Chris Brown.
Denver at Tampa Bay – The Bucs scored more points in Week 3 than they did in weeks 1 & 2 combined, and they still lost. At 0-3, Gruden needs to find a new approach to the game. Attacking Denver’s secondary the way he tried against the Raiders is not recommended. If he keeps up this trend, we will not see another Chucky sequel.
St. Louis at San Francisco – Blown out!! The Niners are just one of many goose egg teams who look awful! They even look horrible on paper. You can’t release your entire team in the off-season and think you’re going to be able to compete. The Rams still continue to focus on the pass nearly every game. They will have a more rounded game plan this week against this suspect Niners D. Marshall may actually rush more than 50 yards this game. But don’t hold me to that.
Kansas City at Baltimore – UPSET OF THE WEEK! Kansas City can’t seem to beat anybody but themselves. This will change this week. Defense will have to stuff the box to contain Jamal Lewis. Boller is no threat through the air. KC will just manage to outscore the Ravens to win this game.
